It includes a new tier of crafting (with hundreds of new recipes) and a great new set of items to harvest in order to make those items.

Before every expansion, I make a point of getting every character to the cap, so that they can hit the ground running in the new lands. Harvesting caps at 400 for level 80 characters (whether adventure or tradeskill) and I’ll be going through all of mine to make sure they have reached that skill level. Also, I like to have a good supply of top level harvests to hand so I can start levelling up my crafting immediately. I will get a level or two using the known recipes before using the new harvests for the recipes of Odus.

Unfortunately, I have a lot of alts and not all of them are as hardworking as they should be. So I have to put in a concerted effort now to get their harvesting up to scratch. That’s why I have put together this quick reference guide so that I can efficiently harvest without a lot of searching.

You do not have to wield the tools to get the benefit. You do have to buff yourself up with the tool by right-clicking on it in your inventory. As the buff lasts for 10 days, this is only an intermittent issue. If you are not canceling the buffs, simply remember to click on the items each weekend to ensure that you constantly have the benefits of your tools in effect.

Harvesting tools can be made by woodworkers and tinkers.

Tools made by woodworkers require a minimum level to use but this can be either adventure or artisan level. There are separate tools for each harvesting skill:

  • Pick: Mining
  • Shovel: Gathering
  • Saw: Foresting
  • Fishing Pole: Fishing
  • Trap: Trapping

Tinkered tools require a minimum artisan level to use. They have combined skills and thus there are only three different tools:

  • Pickaxe: Mining
  • Shears: Gathering and Foresting
  • Watersafe Net: Fishing and Trapping

The following is a table of all of the tool types with the requirements and benefits of each:

Ash Woodworker Level 20 Reduces harvest time by 0.5 seconds
Briarwood Woodworker Level 30 Reduces harvest time by 1.0 seconds
Miscalibrated Tinker Artisan level 30 Reduces harvest time by 1.0 seconds +10 to mining skill, +5 to all others
Teak Woodworker Level 40 Reduces harvest time by 1.5 seconds
Calibrated Tinker Artisan level 46 Reduces harvest time by 1.5 seconds +15 to mining skill, +7 to all others
Sandalwood Woodworker Level 50 Reduces harvest time by 2.0 seconds
Overclocked Tinker Artisan level 66 Reduces harvest time by 2.5 seconds +20 to mining skill, +10 to all others

In addition, there is a level 80 tinkered item, the Collapsible Fishing Pole. This reduces harvest time for fishing by 2.5 seconds and must be wielded in order to fish in the magma of Skyfire.

Often I know exactly what I need but I have to think about where to get it, especially in the middle zones. Much simpler now with this handy-dandy list of the various zones listed by the tier of their harvest nodes, especially for those zones with multiple tiers!

Tier 1 (Levels 01 to 09)

Minimum Skill Level: 1

Zones: Newbie areas including the west side of Greater Faydark as well as the Gorowyn and Chykari islands of Timorous Deep

Tier 2 (Levels 10 to 19)

Minimum Skill Level: 20

Zones: Antonica, Commonlands, Darklight Woods, Greater Faydark (easternmost areas), Mok Rent island of Timorous Deep

Tier 3 (Levels 20 to 29)

Minimum Skill Level: 90

Zones: Thundering Steppes, Nektulos Forest, Butcherblock Mountains

Tier 4 (Levels 30 to 39)

Minimum Skill Level: 140

Zones: Zek, Enchanted Lands, Steamfont Mountains (Northwest)

Tier 5 (Levels 40 to 49)

Minimum Skill Level: 190

Zones: Feerrott, Everfrost, Lavastorm, Rivervale, Steamfont Mountains (Southeast)

Tier 6 (Levels 50 to 59)

Minimum Skill Level: 240

Zones: Sinking Sands, Pillar of Flames, Lesser Faydark

Tier 7 (Levels 60 to 69)

Minimum Skill Level: 250

Zones: Loping Plains, Tenebrous Tangle, Barren Sky, Bonemire

Tier 8 (Levels 70 to 79)

Minimum Skill Level: 340

Sixes recently added tier 8 so that it’s completely up-to-date again. I have this bookmarked as a quick reference, along with the EQtraders rares table. Between the two, I find I can answer most any question that arises to do with raws.
